Tweet from twitter@iPhoneMania_jp April 30, 2021 18:20 Until read about 2 minutes 25 seconds Apple has released a method to reset the AirTag. This is necessary when using an AirTag that has been used by another person and the AirTag has not been completely deleted by the previous owner. I also verified whether the stolen AirTag could be used without permission.
Required if AirTag removal did not complete successfully
Apple's anti-lost tag AirTag is not only easy to set up on your iPhone, but it can also be removed from the Find My app if you no longer use it. Can be deleted. Usually, if the owner removes the AirTag from their Apple ID, other people can activate and use the AirTag. However, according to Apple's published support document How to Reset an AirTag, if the person who removed the AirTag wasn't within Bluetooth range of the AirTag, the next person To use that AirTag, you need to reset the AirTag.
AirTag Reset Instructions
Here's how to reset your AirTag, as published by Apple.
- Press down on the AirTag's sleek stainless steel battery cover and turn it counter-clockwise. Turn the cover until it stops rotating.
- Remove the cover and battery.
- Reseat the battery.
- Press down on the battery until it clicks.
- After the beep, remove and reinsert the battery four more times, and finally press down on the battery until you hear the beep. You should hear a beep every time you press the battery. You will hear a total of 5 beeps.
- Reinstall the cover by aligning the three tabs on the cover with the three grooves on the AirTag.
- Press down on the cover until you hear a click.
- Rotate the cover clockwise. Turn it until it stops rotating.
When I tested it, I was able to confirm that the AirTag still produced sound even when the stainless steel battery cover was removed.
Will someone use my stolen AirTag? I tested it
Will someone use my stolen AirTag if I use this procedure? I was curious, so I tried the above procedure without deleting the AirTag (while it was connected to my account), and when I brought it closer to my family's iPhone, the AirTag was recognized. However, when I tried to set it up, it said "This AirTag is connected to a different Apple ID" and I could not proceed. Even if the AirTag is stolen, it seems unlikely that someone will use it without permission. Source: Apple (hato)
