Freefly launches small UAV ASTRO for high-end aerial photography | DRONE
Freefly Systems, familiar with large aerial drones, has released a small aerial drone ASTRO.
The ASTRO is a high-performance US-made industrial UAV equipped with Ublox's F9P RTK GPS and Skynode. Using a newly developed lightweight lithium-ion smart battery, it can fly for about 40 minutes.
The ASTRO can carry a special universal joint for Sony α 7R IV, or it is aimed at aerial users. In addition, in the future, a special universal joint which can carry the thermal camera WIRIS Pro produced by Workswell Company and the high resolution dual-sensor infrared camera FLIR Duo Pro R produced by FLIR Company will be launched in turn.
It is worth mentioning that it was produced by Freefly Systems in collaboration with Auterion, the largest open source UAV software platform. It can be said that through cooperation, the two companies' respective expertise in hardware and software combined to establish ASTRO. Capture media through Auterion's enterprise compatible software platform to automate the process and rationalize the data flow.
Based on the Auterion Skynode reference design, ASTRO is designed and manufactured by Freefly, equipped with Auterion Enterprise PX4 software on the motherboard and Auterion Mission Control of the ground station. The platform provides users with 4G LTE connections for queue management, online workflow, predictive maintenance, geographic records, and Auterion SDK for enterprise developers.
ASTRO is the first platform in the world to adopt Auterion Enterprise PX4 based on the next-generation flight controllers Auterion Skynode and Dronecode PX4, which has the security required by the US government.
In addition to the basic parts of the flight controller, Auterion Skynode is also equipped with a Cortex-A53-based Linux companion computer and LTE module, and can also implement its own application development in the SDK public. Like the existing Alta series, ASTRO follows safety standards required by the Japanese government.

The release of ASTRO is the result of a default open source initiative in the commercial drone industry for more than a decade. Auterion Enterprise PX4 provides a better degree of integration than the trusted, well-known foundation and professional alternatives.

In Japan, Ideo Motor Robot, the drone agent of Freefly, handles it as a window. Astro starts booking at a scheduled sales price of 2 million yen (excluding tax) and shipments are expected to begin in December.
