Lifehacker Eight common problems in Lifehacker LifeHacker LifeHacker AirPods and their solutions

What's wrong with AirPods?

Wireless technology is a common thing, but sometimes I don't know how to fix it.

Fortunately, most of the problems can be easily solved, and if not, there are several solutions that can be tried. Sometimes, there is no problem with the AirPods at all, in some cases the source device is very strange, in some cases it is just earwax, and the battery ages naturally.

This time, we will introduce common problems and troubleshooting guidelines for AirPods.

If you reset AirPods, almost all the problems will be solved.

This is a classic solution, "turn the power back on" applied to Apple's wireless headphones.

By resetting the AirPods, you can restore the AirPods to a "new-like" state. After a reset, pairing with iPhone again usually returns to normal.

To reset AirPods:

  1. 左右のイヤホンを充電ケースに入れる。
  2. ケースの背面にある丸いボタンを、LEDが点滅するまで15秒間押し続ける。
  3. iPhoneの近くでAirPodのケースを開き、ペアリング手順を実行する。

Once you pair with iPhone, other Apple devices will be automatically paired through iCloud.

1. How to find the missing AirPods

You can use Apple's find iPhone tool to find AirPods. But be careful. If you turn on the AirPods, you can find the location of the AirPods by "find iPhone", but if you have entered the chassis or the battery is exhausted, you can only know the last location detected.

To find AirPods:

If AirPods should be at home, but can't find it, click the play Sound option to listen to your hum.

However, if the headphones are in the box, or if the power is off, the sound will not go off.

two。 Resolve sound interruption and noise problems

When there is a problem with the voice, it may be too far from the source device. The AirPods has a connection range of 100ft (30m), but if there are obstacles, such as walls, the connection range will be greatly shortened.

This problem won't happen if you keep the source device (iPhone or iPod) in your pocket. If you are using an immobile source device, such as a computer, out of the connection range, you will not be able to get the appropriate voice quality.

In addition, if there is a source of interference around, the connection range may be narrowed.

Wi-Fi, in particular, is known for interfering with built-in AirPods W1 chips. You can resolve this problem by closing iPhone Wi-Fi or moving to a location where there is no Wi-Fi. You can also use Mac to identify areas with high Wi-Fi interference.

3. The actions of playing and pausing are very strange.

The AirPods is equipped with a proximity sensor that automatically detects installation or removal to the ear.

The ability to play and stop audio automatically is thanks to this feature. If the AirPods is still installed on the ear, but the audio stops, there may be a problem with the proximity sensor.

You can disable this AirPods feature in Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods. Click the "I" mark next to AirPods to turn off "automatic ear detection".

However, if this feature is disabled, the same amount of power will be consumed without AirPods on the ear, and the battery durability will become worse.

As described above, resetting AirPods is also one way.

If you think there is a problem with AirPods itself, please contact Apple support for maintenance and replacement.

4. Automatic ear detection doesn't work.

Automatic ear detection automatically pauses music and other functions when the AirPod is removed from the ear. If automatic ear detection does not work well, check to see if this feature is enabled first.

Continue to Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods, and then click the "I" mark next to AirPods to make sure that Auto ear Detection is turned on.

Next, check the AirPods for dirt!

When covered with auricles, etc., the proximity sensor may not work properly. If the sensor is not working, AirPods will not be able to detect this even if it is removed from the ear. Don't forget to clean the box (it's easy to use cotton swabs and isopropyl alcohol).

By the way, it would be better to clean up the iPhone.

5.AirPods cannot connect to iPhone

If the AirPods does not connect to the iPhone properly, put it back into the charge box and wait about 15 seconds. Then take out the AirPods and see if it is connected. To connect manually, open the Control Center, click on the upper right corner of the music box (see figure below), and then select AirPod.

There are also cases where there are problems with iPhone. Try to turn off Bluetooth by turning on cabin mode and then turning it off. (access control center, click the plane icon, wait a few seconds and then click again).

If that doesn't work, let's restart iPhone.

Haven't you fixed it yet?

Follow the steps above to reset the AirPod, and then try pairing again. If the LED is not lit, the AirPods is powered off. Try again after a few minutes of charging.

6.AirPod cannot connect to Mac

This problem often occurs on old-fashioned Mac with poor Bluetooth chips. Start troubleshooting by turning off Bluetooth.

On the menu bar at the top of the screen, click the Bluetooth icon and select turn off Bluetooth. Wait a few seconds, then turn it on again, and try to see if you can connect.

If you cannot do so, you can also force the termination of the Bluetooth daemon running in the background of the macOS.

Note, however, that if you execute this command, other Bluetooth devices will also be disconnected.

Open a new terminal window and enter the following command:

Press enter, enter the administrator password, and then press Enter again. Please wait 1-2 seconds, and then try to connect to AirPods.

Isn't that going well?

Restart Mac, or use the Mac Bluetooth troubleshooting guide here, reset the list of known devices, and then try to pair manually.

7.AirPods cannot be charged

There are also users calling for AirPod not to be recharged well.

Apple said to check the charging cable first. If you charge the iPhone with the same cable, you can determine if there is something wrong with the cable. If there is nothing wrong with the cable, try to suspect the Lightning port that is the charging port.

Many people carry AirPods in their pockets or bags, so there are fluff, dust and other conditions that clog the charging port.

If you use something sharp and thin, you can clean the charging port.

For example, you can use the SIM key that you use when opening the iPhone SIM tray. Rub the inside of the hole to remove dust and rubbish.

If you're sure there's nothing wrong with the cable and the charging port, connect the power and place it for 15 minutes to confirm what's going on.

If you still haven't charged, please consult Apple for maintenance and replacement.

The durability of 8.AirPods battery is not good

By enabling automatic ear detection, you can improve the battery durability of the AirPods. To view the settings, open Settings > Bluetooth, and then click the "I" mark next to AirPods.

If enabled, the cause of the problem may be a software failure. In this case, as mentioned above, you need to reset the AirPods.

Don't forget that the batteries of the AirPods and the charging box are just like those of the iPhone.

The more the charging cycle is repeated, the less the total capacity of the battery. This is the natural aging of lithium-ion batteries, so there is no way.

Apple provides maintenance services for AirPods. The battery of AirPods is 5800 yen on one side, and the battery of the charging box can be replaced for 5800 yen.

Please note that if your AirPods is under warranty, you can replace it free of charge (you can check the warranty here).

Choose the right wireless headset

The Apple AirPods is ideal for iPhone users and can be paired nearby, charged using the Apple Lightning port, and communicated with the low-power W1 standard.
