We have recently decided to add a second building to the data center "Shiroi Data Center Campus" (Shiroi City, Chiba Prefecture, hereinafter referred to as Shirai DCC) (*), which has been in operation since May 2019. I will do it. The construction schedule is scheduled to start in May 2022 and start operation in April 2023.

The newly constructed Phase 2 building has an area site area of approximately 8,000 m2, a maximum power receiving capacity of 10 MW (megawatts), and a capacity of 1100 racks. IIJ's network is expanding in demand due to the promotion of DX by domestic companies. We will expand the facility accommodation space for related services and meet the strong demand for colocation from enterprises, cloud vendors, content providers, data center operators, etc. In addition, we will expand the application area of automation, further improve operational efficiency, and promote carbon neutrality initiatives such as installing a mega solar power generation facility.

background

Shirai DCC actively adopts new technologies such as the latest energy-saving technology, AI, and operation automation by robots, and data that can meet the needs of large-scale digital data processing due to the full-scale spread of digital transformation (DX), AI and IoT. As a center, the first building started operation in May 2019. Shirai DCC is also being used as an integrated base for cloud and network services provided by IIJ, and its compatibility with IIJ services and new initiatives such as energy saving and automation have been highly evaluated, and it is a colocation of service providers and enterprises. And housing orders are steadily increasing. In addition, with the recent expansion of ICT use by domestic companies, the use of IIJ services is increasing, and the use of DC as a facility for accommodating service equipment is also increasing. Demand for colocation and expansion of IIJ service facilities are expected to continue in the future, and the first phase building (about 700 racks) is expected to be fully occupied by the end of 2022. We decided to build it.

Phase 2 Building Equipment Overview

Area site area Approximately 8,000㎡ (Shirai DCC total site area approximately 40,000㎡)
Equipment accommodationAbout 1,100 racks
Air conditioning systemDirect outside air cooling method
electrical equipment Three-phase four-wire UPS
Power receiving capacity 10 MW (megawatt)

Major features

In the 2nd building, we will continue to develop the automation and energy-saving technologies introduced in the 1st building and expand the application area.

For air conditioning equipment, we have adopted an "outside air cooling air conditioning system" that reduces power consumption and a "wall blowout air conditioning" that enables efficient air conditioning and transportation. For electrical equipment, we will adopt a three-phase four-wire UPS to efficiently supply 200V, and we will also promote the leveling of power demand by peak cutting and peak shifting of air-conditioning power using lithium-ion storage batteries.

In addition to ground-based robots, we will continue to demonstrate patrols using drones for patrols of data center equipment. Furthermore, in addition to business automation based on RPA (Robotic Process Automation) / RBA (Run Book Automation) infrastructure, we will promote further automation of data center operation work by robots, such as unmanned admission work.

For data centers that consume a large amount of electricity, it is an urgent issue to respond to carbon neutrality, and in the future, we will realize carbon neutrality by installing on-site mega solar power generation equipment and procuring power from off-site power generation equipment. We will continue to promote our efforts toward this.

In addition to being able to directly connect to IIJ's various network services and cloud service facilities, JPNAP Tokyo Service, an Internet exchange (IX) service, will be provided at Shirai DCC in March 2022, so domestic and overseas content will be provided. It also realizes interconnection with businesses and Internet connection businesses. The Inzai area, where Shiroi DCC is located, is attracting attention as a center for data centers where construction rush continues, and it can also be used as a HUB base for networks that connect to various cloud services and suburban data centers.
