lifehacker lifehacker LifeHacker How to reduce the risk of being voyeur in a room you stayed at LifeHacker Airbnb

There are many things to consider when staying in a stranger's house.

Is it possible to be killed? Can't you get angry if you eat lunch in the bedroom?

Then ... wouldn't you be shooting naked with a hidden camera?

There's no surefire way to make sure you don't have a hidden camera, but here are some things you should try.

1. Use a flashlight

Turn off the lights in the room and illuminate the room with a flashlight (or smartphone).

Look for the camera lens to reflect light. According to Digital Trends, this will allow you to find camera lenses that are hidden behind the scenes.

2. Examine drawers and cabinets

Most hidden cameras are fairly small, but some require some space. Check all drawers, cabinets, shelves, etc.

3. Observe carefully

Hidden cameras can be installed almost anywhere, but they are not completely invisible from the outside. For example, if it's hidden in an alarm clock, you'll find something strange.

4. Examine the Wi-Fi network

If the hidden camera uses Wi-FI to send data, it may be able to detect data flying in the air.

As mentioned earlier, you can also run a script on your computer to detect the Wi-Fi camera (you can also signal the camera to turn it off) (some apps can do the same).

However, finding a hidden camera is not an easy task. Even if a camera is present, we don't know if it can be detected (such as in the script above), and if it can't be detected, there is no guarantee that there is no hidden camera.

Also, if the script detects a camera-like signal but can't find the actual camera, it's hard to tell if the detected camera is really in that room or in the next room.

What if I find a hidden camera?

Airbnb rules require the host to disclose the presence of surveillance devices and the presence or absence of recordings in "house rules" (guests are prohibited from installing surveillance devices in the host's room).

If you find a hidden camera in a rented room, Aibnb explains that you can cancel your reservation and get a full refund.
